Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Our friend and fellow iKC member, J T took the time to remind us in his blog post and video how important it is to keep not just our knives sharp, but keeping our minds sharp.
Thanks JT

So let me ask, what are you reading right now?

I am just finishing up Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Mauturin (Master and Commander) Series. I enjoyed it greatly but alas this last book is titled 21 the Final Unfinished Voyage of Jack Aubrey. The author died before it was finished.

I highly recommend these books to anyone!

What next? I dont know. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe it is time I finally read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!
Just picked up Survive! The Ultimate Edition by Les Stroud. It comes with a companion DVD of Stroud's Stranded docu-video program, which has Summer and Winter scenarios.

I've been going through the James Bond novels in order and I'm now up to #11, which is

If all you know of James Bond is through the movies, then you should treat yourself to reading all 13 of the novels in order. You'll get a completely more realistic view of the character and insight in to his complexities than from from the celluloid image that most are accustomed to.

Ian Fleming's own personal character is also worth looking into. To see the underlying aspects of alchemy, mythology, factual personalities and circumstance that are interwoven within a mere novel is an enigma waiting to be detected within. Check out Phil Gardiner's site @ http://www.thebondcode.com/ or pick up his book to flesh out those aspects within the pages of Bond....

Just finished Caro's Secrets of Winning Poker by Mike Caro.

A very useful and insightful book by the "mad genius" of poker.

Although I read Caro's Book of Poker Tells sometime before this one, I feel it might serve the poker enthusiast better to read Secrets of Winning Poker first, then go on to the Book of Poker Tells afterwards...

Twitter for Dummies and Trust Agents. Got two more on the way from Amazon, but you don't want to know about them....one is Adult Children of Alcoholics...the good news is my Dad now has been alcohol free for 15 years, maybe more.
Well, I am really a book fan, reading lots of books of all types and sizes..
The last book I just finished reading is called -Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates- by Tom Robbins.
He is one of my favorite authors, I have and read most of his books.
I also leaf through a great knife book ever once in a while, I received it last Christmas.
It is called- A Large Encyclopedia of Knives - by A.E.Hartink - 450 pages about knives and knife makers.

The other books I read recently are - By The Rive Piedra I Sat Down And Wept- by Paulo Coelho,
he is also one of my favorites, especially his book The Pilgrim.

In the Fall I read a very thought provoking book called His Holiness, John Paul II and the Hidden History of our Time- by Carl Bernstein and Marco Politi. A must read.
There are hundreds of books that I have read and would love to discuss, but I am not sure iKC is the place to do so.
Just got a hold of three topic-related books over the week, and have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with them and would recommend each of them to anyone who has a great or passing interest in the outdoors.

The first is Camping & Wilderness SURVIVAL, 2nd ed. by Paul Tawrell.

http://www.amazon.com/Camping-Wilderness-Survival-Ultimate-Outdoors...

The second is The Complete Wilderness Training Manual, 2nd revised ed. by Hugh McManners.

http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Wilderness-Training-Manual-McManners...

The third is LEAVE NO TRACE: A Guide to the New Wilderness Etiquette by Annette McGivney

Cool Scott .. very cool .. 9+ here !!
just finished THE GOOd RAT, now Iam re reading SNOWCRASH it's even better the second time

Eric Kandel " In search of memory" how your brain forms and retains memory. Great read, especially if your a senior.

I am reading this book now.  It was given by my great grandfather to his daughter in 1876.  I was examining it for my genealogy research.  But it is so interesting and full of important truths that I decided to read it.  I scanned the whole book into my computer so I wouldn't have to handle it so much.  My great aunt's name was Mary Elizabeth Sample and she married a Seabaugh, so Eliza Sample and Mary E. Seabaugh are the same person.  The second inscription was added after she was married.  There is no publication date listed in the book so I don't know when it was printed except that it was no later than 1876.  John Hambleton was a minister in the 1740's and 1750's.  Based on the flyleaf I believe it was a reprint and not the original printing.
