Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hi All, I am Alex and I have a fondness for clicky things. Oh hell...the truth be told I am addicted to Antique switchblade knives, in particular those manufactured in America from the likes of Pressbutton Knife Co, Schrade Cut Co, Flylock, Presto, Case, Remington, Union Cutlery Co and the like. I have been collecting knives for over twenty years, focusing mainly on automatics the last eight years or so. I also love any related ephemera from advertising to displays, to boxes or catalogs. So what all do you guys like?

Alex- I have to confess- I don't have any switchblades and joined because I want to learn about them...and how to decide which ones would be good to be watching out for. But I like the older knife companies, so suggestions are appreciated. My intent it to be quite, listen and learn, which is the reason I joined this group. Hope you don't mind me hanging around here.

I'm a collector of old elephant toenails and knife company memorabilia.
Scott,

There are a lot of great brands of vintage switchblades out there to collect particularly the Americans of which you so fondly collect toenails. Some of the brands of course that you would know would be Union Cutlery Co, Case, Remington, Queen, Cattaraugus, etc, although those are not the primary brands representing the majority of American automatics. Some of these would be Schrade Cutlery Co, Pressbutton Knife Co, Walden Knife Co, Presto, Flylock and the later Imperials, Edgemasters and Shursnaps, among others. Firstly I would say, as I am sure you would attest, garner all the information you can before embarking on making a purchase. Foremost, buy what you like, additionally buy the best quality you can afford as these purchases tend to be the most lucrative in the future. I would suggest, to anyone interested in American switchblades, buying Mark Ericksons book "Antique American Switchblades." It has a wealth of information regarding these beasts.

Thanks Alex. Good info, particularly identifying the various brands for us. I'd like to find me an old Catt or Remington, maybe a Case, but I'm sure they would cost me a toenail or two :)
Greetings from western Minnesota. My name is Randy Huckeby. I am a retired small town police chief. I joined a Sheriffs Dept after leaving the Police Dept & now have retired from that also. I just recently started knive & collectibles business. I am married with 3 wonderful children & a fine yellow lab by the name of Max. I do own about a dozen switchblades including the new models from Spyderco. I don't own anything old & probably the oldest I have seen is the old elcheapos that everyone brought back from Mexico. Probably won't post much for a while anyway, at least until I obtain some knowledge. I also collect, carve, & sell fish decoys for spearing through the ice & duck decoys.

I'm just getting into the switchblade knives and have a lot to learn. It's the leverlock switchblades that sparked my interest.
