Whenever I'm deciding which of my EDC blades to take with me for the day I always have a hard time choosing. I always end up carrying more than one, Five to be exact. Does anyone else have a hard time deciding which knife to carry so you end up taking more than one? If so which two do you have the most trouble with deciding on?

I used to have a problem with which ones to carry. When I first started buying better quality knives I was looking for one nice knife with a blade steel that would stay sharp longer. Of course my search for one knife ended up with me owning 30 or 40. lol Then I started whittling down the number based on what I was putting in my pocket most days. I sold or traded some REALLY great knives just because I always picked up something else. I tried but I never could come up with a decent reason for the ones I chose over some of the ones not chosen. 90% of the knives I sold or traded were knives I liked. It is different when you don't like a knife. Anyway, I now have 10 to 15 that I use based on the type of use. Small 1.5" blade to 3.5" blade. I don't have more than 2 knives that would fulfill a use category. Plus any decision is fine because I love all the knives I have to choose from.

I'm not a collector. I always had one or two pocket knives but I don't remember owning 3 at the same time until the past 6 years. Now owning only one knife sounds like living on another planet. :) I like haveing a wide variety and a few to fit any need. All hold a special place in my heart (and sometimes in my skin :)). Ouch!

Jack

Jack, I think you are what we call a "user collector". There is nothing wrong with that, just enjoy! Use one on one day and another, another day. There is nothing wrong with having multiple knives for the same job. Just enjoy them all.

I feel your pain Jack.  I've "collected" about 25 or 30 so far but only 5 or 6 get regular rotation.  Currently I am trying to go light for the summer with a Spyderco Delica 4 as my main blade, a Leatherman Skeletool and a Leatherman Juice S2 for any light duty repairs, and a Vic Explorer...well just because I guess.

Interesting Timothy. I probably have 100-150 today but to be honest my EDC changes maybe weekly and hardly ever daily. I seldom rotate more that the 5-6 I really like and that become active users.

Ditto, Steve. I keep going back to the same ones with an occasional one or two for specific purposes. I have been carrying the one clipped to my  front pocket for about 14 years now. It almost always goes with me. Like an old friend.

When I carry a fixed blade, I always carry a folder also. I use the fixed blade for some jobs and the folder for others. The fixed blade is usually used for me to clean game or fish and the folder for everything else. Sometimes when camping, I might ware a fixed blade to prepare supper for everyone.

In the car/truck I also carry a seat belt cutter of some type.

A fixed blade can be carried in comfort with the right sheath. I find a High Ride Pouch style leather sheath the most comfortable for my uses.

yep, I do. I carry small Bark River little caper and a Northwoods Calico Jack.

I only carry two at the moment, one for bigger tasks and one for little jobs like letters, ect. I find they balance out the two flashlights I also carry.

i also have always a couple of knives with me most of the time my leatherman sidekick and when its winter also my spyderco tenacious

I carry more than one EDC knife. Just thought I'd post a picture of what I'm carrying now. The picture also has an EagleTac D25C2 flashlight in it also. I included it in the picture because I consider an EDC light and knife sort of in the same category. Something in addition to a wallet (or purse), keys, change, etc. I'll give a brief thought on what I like or use each item for and why I carry it.

GEC Northfield buckaroo:  Traditional pocket knife I love. I did a lot of shopping, looking and whittling down the list before I decided on this one. Burnt stag scales was a requirement. I use this for fairly light duty and when I'm around NKP. Great knife.

Spyderco Techno: WHAT A TUFF LITTLE KNIFE. Possibly the folder closest to being as strong as a fixed blade as I've seen. In the month or so I've had it I've done a little prying with it that the knife seems to laugh at. This knife won't scare anyone either I don't think. Titanium (no rust) handle (no liners) and an exceptional (IMO) stainless blade steel (CTS-XHP). Given it's materials I think this is a good choice for using around water. Keep it clean and lubed of course. A given for any knife.

Spyderco Manbug(s) lol (frankenspydie): This knife started as the G-10 handle/VG-10 blade Manbug. Now it has blue MOP kirinite scales and the Aogami superblue/420-J1 blade from the Manbug sprint run. I ground the spine similar to the Spyderco Jester. Love the Manbug series and I use this for light duty. I normally carry it in a kydex neck sheath. A neck sheath provides the easiest access to a pocket knife there is IMO.

Flashlight: Reason for carry? Obvious. The EagleTac light is a remarkable light IMO. Great construction and LOTS of LUMENS in a small size. Just as good as any Fenix I've owned. Better than some. Love it. If you are into EDC lights please check out the EagleTac lights if you haven't already.

These are my EDC knife set at the moment (plus light). I doubt I'll ever come across a cutting chore I can't do with these.  And if it's dark I have that covered also. lol  The only thing I lack in this set possibly is a knife with a longer blade.
