Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Tobias has been running some fishing polls and it has gotten me interested in the members hunting habits or lack thereof.  So I have decided to run some hunting polls.  This first one will be very simple.

Question 1:  Do you hunt?

Question 2:  If the answer to Question 1 is no (and you don't mind telling), why not?

(There is no right or wrong answer to this question.  The aim here is not to establish whether hunting is right or wrong.  This is not meant to be an argumentative discussion.   The reason might simply be you don't have the opportunity.  Maybe your health will no longer permit it.  Maybe you just can't kill an animal.  Whatever the answer is, it is perfectly legitimate and reasonable for you.)

BTW, since this a sensitive subject to some, I will delete any comments which I feel are derogatory to someone else.

It is too bad it is so restrictive there.  I hope we can keep it from getting that way here.  A few states are fairly restrictive here.  California is one of if not the worst.  Even if I don't kill something, I enjoy just getting out in the woods and watching the wild game.

I used to hunt , deer ducks rabbits that sort of thing . Too much trouble owning firearms over here and I basically stopped wanting to kill things after a while . Don't blame others for hunting though, I used to enjoy it !

I have hunted for most of my life and I am 69 now.  I grew up on a farm and began hunting at a young age.  The four years I was in college I wasn't able to hunt much and the four years I lived in Illinois I wasn't able to hunt at all.  Other than that I have been able to hunt wherever I have lived.  I have hunted in Missouri, Kentucky, Kansas, and now Alabama.

Yes for 43 years.

Yes, I do hunt but not for about 3 years due to being the sole caregiver for my wife. I have hunted since I was very young as my family relied heavily on the source of food. In recent years all of us rely less on wild game and just go to the grocery store. I still enjoy eating wild game and my son provides me with some each year. I hope to continue to enjoy the outdoors in the future and at least get a few squirrels as much of the larger game I would not be able to consume. I also like a grouse or quail but they are scarce these days due to the lack of habitat. Venison is great and also some rabbit is a tasty treat!

I mainly "still" hunt but as I age I tend to ground "stand" more often.

Bob, I am a caregiver to my wife also.  I wouldn't be able to hunt if a friend of mine at church didn't let me hunt on his farm.  It is only five miles from my house.  So if my wife needs me for anything I can be home in just a few minutes.  Fortunately I have good cell phone reception there.

There are a lot of deer and squirrels but very few rabbits,  Too many coyotes to have a lot of rabbits.  The only birds there are dove.  Should be good dove hunting.  He has about 100 acres of soybeans and I have been seeing dove in the soybeans.

I do all my deer hunting from stands.  Due to the geography of the land and where the deer are, I am limited to hunting in about a 14 acre patch of woods and brush.  I have four stands set up in it at various places so no matter which direction the wind is coming from, at least one of them has the wind in a favorable direction.  There is about 300 or 400 acres of excellent deer habitat adjacent to my friends land that I would love to try still hunting in it but there is no chance of that.  Part of it is leased to a hunting club and the rest of it that owner's sons hunt so he won't let anyone else hunt it.  But I always see plenty of deer on the area I hunt.  I have three salt licks established.

Yes Yes and Yes - in other words, I do hunt

YES, and as a retiree for about 9+ years I am now getting more time outside.
There is pain involved [ boo boo's ] but I got out more last year than in the whole past 10 years.
Mostly white tail deer in Western & Southern NYS [ NOT the city ].

Lots of hunters about and we all love the outdoors ,especially the cold & snow [ NO bugs ].

Steven I am retired too.  Have been for three years now.

Today was opening day of dove season here.  Temp was in the 70's.  That is the first time in several years that the temp wasn't in the 90's.  Our bow season opens Oct. 15.  There have been times when I was bow hunting and sweating wearing my camoflage T shirt!  We only get major snows here about once every three to five years.  A friend of mine at church lets me hunt on his farm.  His son and grandson are the only others who hunt there.  I am the only non family member he lets hunt there.  I always see lots of deer and always let a lot more walk than I shoot.  In one season of deer hunting I have had as many as 200 deer sightings.  The most I have killed in any one season is four.  I deer hunt with crossbow, muzzleloader, and rifle.

I used to hunt but I haven't hunted since I moved to Seattle.  It is just too difficult to find land to hunt on, or you have to pay a private guide, which I refuse to do.  The game here is not what I grew up with either, here they hunt bear, cougar, elk, geese, whereas I grew up hunting little deer and pheasants So I started hunting with a camera instead, and I've had some pretty good results.

Hey Data, hunting with a camera is good too.  It can be hard to find hunting land here in Alabama too.  A lot of the good hunting land is leased by hunting clubs and they are expensive to join.  Of course they have to pay their yearly lease fees and they also spend money to plant food plots and build stands.  And they will often have some sort of club house.

I am fortunate that a friend of mine at church has let me hunt on his land for the last five years and doesn't charge me.  I have put up several stands and created three salt licks.  His son and grandson hunt there too and use the stands also.

I now hunt mainly deer, dove, and coyote.  The landowner wants me to kill any possums and coons that I see.  On my own I will take a shot at any skunks I see but I don't go out specifically hunting them.

Here is a picture I got while riding my 4 wheeler.

Charles,

That is a beautiful pic!

Yes--Spring geese; summer seals and maybe walrus; fall geese, caribou, moose, black bear and whitetail deer along with ptarmigan and ruffed grouse and winter is the continuation of fall as our seasons starts in Oct. and Nov for big game.

Shlomo, you have a really good variety of game to hunt.
