Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

My mother, who is now 90,used to make a chili to die for. People who swore they didn't even like chili would eat hers till their ears popped. Unforunately, at her age she no longer remembers the recipe. So now my quest is to find the ultimate chili recipe. Who has one to share ??

Same thing here. My mom made the greatest Chili that I've ever eaten! She had the recipe in her head and no one thought to ever ask for it. The same for a lot of what she cooked. She'd go into the kitchen, throw stuff in a pot, cook it, and it would be the best food we'd ever eat!

My wife makes really good Chili. She always tries to remember watching my mom making it. I'll have to ask her if she actually has a recipe! LOL!

ooooo, I need to write mine down!

Mine is what we call "School Chili"

1 lb of hamburger

1 large onion chopped

1 bottle catsup

a dash of cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp of chili powder

3 tablespoons of grape jelly

3 cans of kidney beans

in your pot, cook onions till glassy looking, add hamburger and brown the meat

add beans, catsup, when comes to boil..add chili powder/cayenne/grape jelly...

turn heat down to medium and cook about 15min...turn to low and your ready to eat...

grab the oyster crackers and enjoy !

Sounds like a great recipe,Sue. The grape jelly has me stumped, however.I have seen chocolate in chili recipes, but never jelly of any type, especially grape?? What does the grape jelly do for the chili??  Puzzled but intrigued --

I don't want to wish any bad weather on you, Jan, but  I lived in Clearwater for a year or two.It doesn't get that cold, very often. I however, live in the frozen tundra of Illinois now and I need  my chili fix !! LOL

wondering if John tried that School Chili ?

In the summer when tomato's are abundant, I do dice up a couple and let them cook in with the chili too...

Haven't had the chance yet,Sue, but I fully intend to at my first opportunity.I'm a retail manager with extended store hours for the holidays. Add to that, one of the other managers at my store managed to get himself fired 2 days before you posted the recipe. In short, I haven't had much free time to even think about cooking anything that I couldn't nuke in a microwave !! Hopefully, things will get back to semi-normal at work soon and I can make up a pot !!  I'm really looking forward to trying it!!
