whats the best way to achieve a good and symmetrical primary grind?  i have several tools at my disposal (bench grinder, sanders, hand held grinders, chop saw) and a friend with an old school milling machine... is there  a way to get a good symmetrical primary grind by use of jig or guide? or is there a tool or adapter i can buy to make this task easier? or tips or tricks?

I asked this in KNIFE MAKING BEGINNERS too

I paint the blank with steel blue and mark a line with calipers ...this will be the top of my grind it gives me a good visual.

When you say primary grind do you mean the bevel or the cutting edge?

I set my grinds with a belt sander. I scribe the center of the edge so I stay true and straight and then mark the blade with a scribe or marker as a visual aid.. Then using a 50 Grit ceramic belt I do 90% of the grind. then work through the grits and refine them.. I do my grinds free hand. But I have seen many jigs that will help get very repeatable results. You can make a jig or buy a grinding jig. Like the bubble jig. etc.  Hope this helps a bit.
