The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Putting together a knife for a friend.
Acquired a few of the Delta 5 blade blanks from Knifekits.com's boneyard. The grinds are less than perfect .but.. that will likely change. The steel is tempered well & the price is right. The center blank (as pictured) is the one I'll be using for this project. Specs as listed on their site are pasted below.
Blade Steel: AUS8 stainless steel
(Heat Treated to 57-59 rc.)
Blade Length: 5.0 Inches
Handle Length: 4.75 Inches
Overall Length: 9.75 Inches
This is the starting point.
After cutting the bone in half & milling a slot .. this is what I have.
The bone is over length at this point & the blade blank will require some tang configuration before finalized. Still @ the "fitting" stage.
.
Brass 1.25" round stock will provide a guard / bolster. Lacking a bandsaw .. I chucked up on a cut-off blade & sliced off 0.400" of material. This facilitated a more accurate cut than the available hacksaw with a bit less labor.
Putting the project at this point. The tang is beginning to take shape.
There's a ways to go yet ..still.. potential for a nice result.
