I got this knife a few weeks ago. When I open the scissors all the way the spine hits the spring too soon not letting the spring drop down even with the handle. They don't open all the way either. See picture. This doesn't effect the use of the knife or scissors. It just bugs me. The knife blade opens perfectly.
From what little I know about these things I believe if I grind the area in the picture below, the scissors will open fully and properly. Of course this would require pretty accurate Dremel use. Or a diamond file.
The knife is brand new and I think this issue is covered by warranty. I sent Case an email and they are supposed to reply back but I thought I'd post this here to see what you guys think. Any thoughts? I'd like to correct this myself but I don't want to make things worse.

Jack .. if Case is willing to deal with it as a warranty issue .. I strongly suggest you let them.
Should that .. for any reason .. not pan out ................. then & only then would I implement a modification myself.
IF you end up doing it yourself ... look REALLY close before doing anything. Can you get to enough of the "spine" to even implement a working repair.
Ideally .. i believe .. the knife should be dis-assembled enough to gain full access to the backspring .. and trim that. Be very very very careful .. the removal of 0.0005" of material will cause a major change.
Yes .. that's 5 ten thousands .. 1/2 a thousands of an inch.
Re-assembly numerous times while removing miniscule amounts of material will insure you do not end up with scissors that open too far. Just the opposite of the problem you now seem to be experiencing.
Were it a used & abused knife .. I'd think differently. This is a new knife ............ I strongly suggest you let CASE deal with this one.
I have to agree with D ale. Allow Case the opportunity to make it right first
I believe you two are very smart. Might give Case a call tomorrow. Look at the shield. It has "ORVIS" on it instead of "Case". I did check with Case about this. They confirm it's a Case and they made some just for Orvis. I have seen the peanut with scissors in their catalog a few years ago but I don't know if they are making it now. I'm thinking there may not be a replacement knife.
The thing is I may decide to keep the peanut the way it is. The knife and scissors still work. I'll see what Case's position is.

Let Case deal with it, it is possible to fix it at home but i don't see any reason to risk the warranty.
