My era girlscout

Very nice Sue

Very sweet, my dear.

I'll repeat my question; has anyone heard of a Sam Bernstein Royal Brand USA Scout?

Samuel E. Bernstein owned the TM to Royal Brand USA.  The knives were not official BSA knives.  Bernstein made tableware and other items.  People claim his compnay was around  from 1890-1954 but he incorporated in 1921, He was born in 1873 and died in 1933.    Most of the Royal Brand USA I see online seem to look like they were made in 1930s. The quality is like many of the BSA knock-offs.  I'm not sure how common they were.  I've also not seen a value assessed for them in any of the guide books.  So I guess it all depends on how good the sales pitch and what a person is willing to pay. Most tend to have celluloid scales or shell handles meaning they were low priced knives.  hope this helps.

Thanks the one I am getting has bone scales and appears to be very well made. It's in very good condition for it's age. I'll post pictures later. He may have had the knife made by one of the better knife companies of the day?

This is a picture of my Sam Bernstein. It reminds me of a vintage Camillus. What do ya'll think?

Robert, I think it might actually be subcontracted through Utica. The long pull and the half-moon can opener looks very much like blades found on 1930s Utica camp knives and many of its subsidiaries.  Same with the Scout shield.  The also used that type of wire bail and the ringed bolsters. Most of the ones that used that bail are missing them.  Either way, that is one fine 1930s camp knife.  great find!

Thanks Tobias, I thought It was really made well and in great shape for it's age. I agree, someone like Utica made it for them. There's probably not a lot of these around.

Robert, that is one nice looking camper.

Thanks my small scout collection is growing.

How many do you have now, Robert?
