As of late employees at MIKOV KNIFE CO.  haven't been very  happy with the MICROTECH knife co. Not to long ago I seen a spring knife that MICROTECH was introducing to the public as a new line of knives that will be run through production these coming months. they are calling it  there cobra model. Problem with these "NEW" knives is they have an eerie resemblance with the MIKOV spring knife. I e-mailed my friend at MIKOV (I will leave him nameless at this time)  with a pic of this new microtech knife and a write up someone did about this knife. my friend had already seen the knife and mater of fact it was in his very hand a expensive prototype of this knife from MICROTECH   as he read my e-mail. Lets just say he wasn't happy and nobody at MIKOV is happy at the moment. I was told the only relief to be had about this situation is that I was told MICROTECH can not make there cobra knife in the united states it will have to be out sourced to a china based knife company. The new model from microtech will have there name on the clip only of the knife the only part that will be assembled on the knife in the united states.

I once read that " imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". in my eyes "imitation is the biggest form of plagiarism"and lack of creativity  in this world today.

So i guess im asking a boycott of the cobra knife not the co. just that line of knife to many knife company's today steal ideas from the next company as long as we buy these copies of knifes they will keep stealing from each other.

From what I’ve been reading .. the general consensus is ........................

...

Microtech lacks creativity & Mikov’s only recourse is to accept the compliment of being copied.

 ...

IMO .. it speaks volumes about Microtech .. ‘n none too favorable either.

…… too many knife company's today steal ideas from the next company [&] as long as we buy these copies of knifes they will keep stealing from each other.

.

I spent a # of yrs as a design engineer & have the unfortunate obligation to inform that a regular & thorough dissection of competitors product is standard practice. However, ONLY to discover how they’ve accomplished something that one’s own team is having difficulty with. Exact copying is quite unethical. Doesn’t reflect well on one either.

 .

@ the pace of manufacturing today, re-inventing the wheel can greatly hinder the design process & effect a companies ability to stay competitive.

 .

Usually though .. after the discovery’s accomplished during dissection .. further improvement/enhancements are introduced .. before ever considering incorporating into one’s own product line.

 .

Might I repeat ........... Exact copying is quite unethical. Doesn’t reflect well on one either !!

thanks for your words on this topic dale and i agree with you. i guess my spin on it is from a consumer stand point mikov knives are very reasonably priced and microtech being so ridiculously priced i guess i just don't want mikov to raise prices cause they see Americans buying a copy of there knife for 3 times there asking price. one of the reasons i like mikov knives good quality at a reasonable price.

I certainly agree on quality & price  !!!
The kit was $46.00 .. another $ 3~4 in scale matl  .. $ 4~5 in threaded fastners.

For under $60.00 .. it'll make one nice Mikov !!!

Well, it seems that plagirism is the way of the world, it sure is not something to be proud of! Maybe someone should contact Microtech and openly ask them about this situation? I suspect they think a European company such as Mikov will not even notice the blatant copying of their knife!? Or they may think that the American market does not give a damn..  Mikov.... who?....... I used to work for a climbing gear manufacturing company here in the Czech Republic. They make climbing harnesses, slings and many other items. The reason I am writing this, is that this company  made many products that were being sold in the USA, made for American companies with the Made in the USA stamp. I do not want to name any company, but in the climbing world they are in the top 5 companies that make and sell climbing gear... So when you go out and buy American, you never know.......
