I enjoyed reading your post too Frank. I lived in WA state for quite a while and visited the coulees in central WA quite a few times so I am familiar with the story. Thanks for sharing!

Yes Frank, I enjoyed reading your post. I have noticed environmental changes, since I was a young man. What it all means, I have no idea? Hey, you come tell us about your ideas, you won't be taking up space but making everyone think about our situation in this world.

This comment was/is a little different.  I was encouraged by Jan & Steve to post it, but I would like to know if anyone thought it worth reading--I have others, but I don't want to just take up space.  Thanks.  f

I think the Lord had some fun down through the ages with Washington State evolving geology.  I'm not a geologist, and any corrections or theories are welcome.  But thinking of the Columbia lava flows tahat covered the state enough to actually sink the center or the Cascades formations, the North Cascade Hwy, etc.  It's on the best side of Yellowstone when the big one blows--and it will.  Today, thinking of the Global Warming, we'll start with some chilly weather.  Back when we were being invaded by the polar icecap, a time known to some as the ice ages, some absolutely freaky coincides occurred--yes, being an old LE type, I don't believe in coincides either, but I got no other label to apply.  There are some very strange land formations across the interior of Washington State.  Many theories abounded but all fell short--until one geologist was flying over the region.
I forget his name tonight, it's been a rough day, but the airplane got this guy with the knowledge to apply up high enough to grasp the scope of the events God put into play.  One thing I plan to ask him for someday is an instant replay.  Back to this Geologist--when he explained his theory, he was laughed out of town--seriously--it was just to big for most other "experts" to grasp, even in their imagination.  Now just to shorten this story--I mentioned the invading icecap--one of these glaciers blocked the North Fork drainage just over in Montana.  I got Doyle Lawson in my headphones on Pandora--he's one of our Ruling Elders in our little country church.  Water built up behind this ice dam--and just kept building-- think cubic miles of water--then they had a little global warming back then, too.  When this dam finally let go--can you conceive of CUBIC MILES--more water than contained in ALL of the flowing rivers today--all released at once !!  Just a few of the results--horizontal formations from the waters edge lapping way up on the hillsides along the North Fork drainage, a water storage aquifer where a canyon was filled with river rock--now the aquifer supplies Spokane and more, the scoured scab-lands of mid-state, the giant ripple marks and the hills that once were sandbars, and the occasional huge rock (house-size) that you might see sitting out in the middle of a wheat field.  If the water could carry house-sized boulders, no wonder it could "scour" the land--down to and in some place don into those lava flows I first mention.  The water came through the Wallula  Gap, flowed backwards UP the Snake river canyon and down the Columbia drainage to cover the Willamette Vally in Oregon with rich soil (that "scoured" stuff) and form a distinguishable delta miles into the Pacific Ocean.  And now the clincher--with the recurring ice ages this chain of events was repeated form 20 to 60 times.  Now if that don't float your boat!  I have a CD and give a little program to Ruritan Clubs around here.  You think I'm making this up?  Type in Ice Age Floods or Missoula Floods into your browser and check it out for yourself.  Better than a Clint Eastwood movie, even (maybe not better than Bullit or The Great Escape, but close.)  Please forgive any inaccuracies from my memory, any misspellings or incorrect place names.  You should skip Hawaii this year and go see it--before Yellowstone blows.

Keep wasps and bees away this summer. Put about 10 cloves in 1/2 a lemon and set out. They do not like the scent. Cut off the ends so they sit flat.

Earth Day

What better way to celebrate your awareness and appreciation of the environment on Earth Day than by giving back by planting a tree.

I have noticed that some of our groups overlap. Like, Bushcrafters, Survivalist and Outdoorliving, just to name a few. Some of the skills, you may need in one area, you will probably need in the other. Thank you for that because you won't need to learn, skill after skill. Some will work on all fronts. The topics that I see discussed in these three groups, very seldom talk about, gardening, the rasing of some live stock [chickens, sheep, goats, ducks maybe even a milk cow] fire wood, a water well, food prep. and storage, protection might need a place on the list. This is just a little food for thought, prepare for bad wheather for a few days, that might make us all a little more self relient.
