Rough Riders and other SMKW House Brands

When the Combat Ready Knives came out by SMKW I thought "Those would be the Tactical Rough Rider's if Rough Rider made tacticals.

This got me thinking. Perhaps we should have a discussions where we could discuss other SMKW house brands. I'm not sure there would be enough traffic to sustain an separate group but this might increase traffic to this group.

It is pretty isn't it? It's also a very sturdy well-built knife, feels solid in the hand. I bought this at the SMKW store so I was able to pick and choose which one I liked best, and this one had the prettiest handle color. I haven't handled a RR version of this knife, which is probably made on the same frame in the same factory, but if they are as good as this knife I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. I should have bought more than one, but at the time I didn't know that the Colt-branded knives were going the way of the Dodo. Thanks Charles.

I wasn't aware SMKW had that many house brands. I collect Rough Riders and have about 55 of them. I only have one, a Lady Colt, which I won in a contest here on iKC. I gave it to my daughter.

That is a fine looking camp knife, Syd.
Being able to pick and choose is definitely a plus.

Syd, st al. That blue bone Colt camp knife is identical to the the Marbles five blade camp knife and the current BSA five blade "deluxe camp knife". The only dufference is the handle material, blade etch, and shield.

The pattern was developed soon after WWII and is similar to a knife developed for ski troops during The war. I know imperial and Camillus both made them. I'm guessing others did as well. A few official BSA ones were also made by Bear & Sons in the early 2000s after Camillus closed.

I'm sure their list of brands is even larger than listed. I was fortunate enough to get to visit the SMKW retail store and I can't describe how awesome that place is for a knife lover; more "brands" than most can imagine. I spent most of two days at that store and probably missed 90% of it. Do yourself a favor and visit the store at least once, you won't be sorry.

I agree with your recommendation Syd! Every knife lover owes it to himself to visit that place at least once in his life, no matter where in the US he lives. And give yourself plenty of time. There is just so much to see. There is 100,000 square feet of knives under the big blue roof. And not just the merchandise for sale. There are displays of all kinds all over the building.

I had to drag myself away actually. If I had had more money at that time I would have gone crazy and never left. You could spend an entire day just looking at all the historical knife displays from almost any manufacturer worldwide you could name. Kevin Pipes has managed to create the ultimate in knife stores and a museum all in one. I don't know how or when, but I WILL go back one of these days.

Yep. I just wish the museum was still there. Still there are plenty of cool displays.

We will be up there for the Case Presidents Day the weekend after Blade and we are taking my 10 year old Grandson for his first visit!

Cool, It has been 6 years since I have been there. Every time I walked through the door, it cost me around $100.00 to get out I have been there about 5 times. They still had the National Knife museum all those times. I need to find time to make another trip. Pigeon Forge is a nice place to visit.
