The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I have four of the Indian scrimshaw knives in original boxes. Been in my collection for fifteen years. I have always been curious about the beadwork on the sheaths. Basically…..who made the beadwork? I have owned real Indian beadwork and I would say the scrimshaw beadwork is pretty good. Don’t disappoint me by saying someone in China…. Please. Does anyone know. Thank you!

Beadwork on the sheath of a scrim'ed knife? It looks like there is a small set of Schrade knives that the scales of the knives were scrimshawed, and the sheath had beadwork added to the front. Turtle, Kachina, Bear Cult, Thunderbird, Morning Star, and Sun Dance are the ones I found.
Being as I did some beadwork when I was a kid, I would not have expected the beadwork to be anything real exclusive. I just never never found it that difficult. Tedious, yes! And they look like a nice touch on the sheathes. I saw some COA papers, and the scrimshaw artist was named, but nothing about the beadwork artist.
