Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I am amazed at some of the asking prices folks are trying to get for the USA Schrades listed throughout eBay!

The funny part is that folks are paying the prices. If I were to use the asking prices listed on eBay to value my gathering of Schrades, I could RETIRE.....LOL

For example:

There is a Schrade Duck, like one of the 5 different ones produced (I am fortunate to own one of each) that a gentleman has listed for sale on eBay for $1499.
Now he does take offers, however, I have seen these listed before in the $400-$500 range.

Let's see...5 Ducks with knives x $1500 = $7500...... WOW, and this is just one example

I hope they get what they need for these items......after all a knife is worth what someone is willing to pay.....I will pass thank you very much!

Hi Tom,

I too watch a lot of knife sales on Ebay, and sometimes buy one. I have bought a knife for say $35 and then see it sell for 50. I  have also been on the other end where I bought a knife for $50 and see another one sell a week later for 25. The knife was in the same condition also. That kind of stuff makes me want to quit collecting sometimes, but you are right about it what someone is willing to pay. I don't intend to make money on my knives , but I don't like overpaying either. I always watch the vintage Schrades and the prices seem high to me also . Other than watching sells to see what they are selling for , is there a guide to what you should pay for the older Schrades ?

Hear here!

I have been fortunate more often than not in my pursuit of USA Schrades. I paid more than I wanted to on a few, but for the most part I have been satisfied with my acquisitions thus far. I have taken a hiatus from acquiring more, because of the prices. They will level out to reasonable values soon enough. When that happens, may the best man win.

I am extremely fortunate that I have a lot of Schrade Knives and the majority of them are Factory Mint!  Having said that, I am always on the look out for additional Schrades and even some to replace one that I have that isn't factory mint.

There are even some that I want more of the same knife, just seems right now that more people are selling Schrade USA knives and they are asking, what I consider, way too much!  Then again, if someone wants it bad enough they will pay the price.

I am currently working on getting a Schrade Collection from a family member, I'll let you all know how it turns out!  Very slow process...LOL

It is my opinion that the USA Schrades are much better knives than the ones currently made in China. It's about time for the value of Schrade knives to go up. I like the Schrade-Walden line best. I'm convinced that the workmanship & pride of quality has gone downhill through the years. I prefer the carbon steel over the stainless. As a professional knife sharpener, I sharpen on average about 200+ each week. Most of the knives I get on a regular basis are stainless, with complaints that it won't keep an edge. The regular customers that have carbon steel knives, I see about every 6 months if it's an EDC, once a year if it's their hunting knife and they don't try cutting through breast bones. I do like the tool steels coming out now. I have a Kershaw 1510 with CPM440V (S60V) that is my EDC. Some of my favorite knife steels are: S30V, D2, 154CM, A1, A2, 1095HC.

That's a pretty good list of steels Gene. I was intrigued to reading what you see from a sharpening perspective and what some hunters might do etc. I try to buy better steels because they do hold an edge longer. I am particularly fond of D2 as it is really a superior edge for what I do.

No question about Schrade making a strong come back and putting out some really good knives in demand.

You sure hit the nail on the head. When pricing a knife for sale on Ebay, it seems a lot people go by what others are asking, not by what they have actually sold for. What a knife brings in an auction is much more accurate. What a knife is worth to me, can largely depend on whether it is the first one in a collection, or the last one I need to complete a collection. If it is the last one, I'm willing to pay a premium to acquire it.
