Charles, that is one of the great rifles produced in all time.
Another Great looking lever action, Charles. Thanks for the info on modern Marlins. I'm leaning more at the Henry but might also look at picking up something of a more vintage nature.
Tobias, I have a Marlin Golden 39A Mountie. It is a fantastic rifle. However it is not current production. It is 1967 vintage. At that time the Marlin 39A was the undisputed best .22 rifle available. Now that Marlin has changed hands (I believe Remington now owns them), I have heard that their quality has dropped.
Charles, that rifle is a beauty! A real collectors item. As for the AR-7, I think it is an interesting design but I've heard several things about it. One of them is you need a specific type of .22 LR with a certain type of powder in a specific load or it will continuously jam. Interesting concept but problematic.
I've also looked at Marlins but have heard negative press about them, primarily misfeeding. But sometimes you can never tell if it is a problem with the shooter or the gun.
Tobias, I have an original Model 1873 Winchester. It was passed down to me from my father. You can see pictures of it at this link.

I've never owned one but have examined AR-7's and in my opinion you would be happier with any of the other Henry's.
Charles, I'd love an original but could never afford one. I'm thinking of a modern production. I'd like to get one in 44 Magnum or 45 colt but then i keep thinking that I would mostly be shooting paper the 22 would be a more economical choice.
so I go back and forth between the H001 (22) H001M (22 Mag) and a Henry Big Boy H006C
And then there is also the Henry AR-7 Survival rifle.
Tobias, are wanting one of the current production Henry rifles or are you wanting an original Henry rifle?
Brad, I don't own an AR rifle. I do own a Chinese SKS. It is a 10 shot semi auto in 7.62x39 (.30 caliber). I understand it is what the Chinese issue to their equivalent of our National Guard. It does not have a detachable magazine but uses 10 round stripper clips which make it very quick to reload. I added the scope and removed the bayonet to make it handle better for hunting.
