Favorite Kind of Knives
Sharp ones! While I am always on the look out for the ideal knife, I specialize in fixed blades - Bowies, Daggers, and Combat knives primarily, but I've been known to pick up a folder or two when they capture my imagination. In the broadest sense, I am a collector of edged pieces - Swords, Knives, Bayonets, Ethnographic / Aboriginal, and Historical.

About Me
I am passionate about all edged pieces...Knives, Bayonets, and Swords. Always looking for the ideal knife, I collect knives when I cannot afford a Bayonet. I collect Bayonets when I cannot afford a Sword. When I can afford a Sword, I look to see how many knives I can buy for the same money. And so it goes.

I am also a firm believer that a sword is just an over sized knife, and equally worthy of collecting!

Joined February 23, 2015. Never been sorry.

Interests
Edged weapons, wood working (treen ware), back country exploration, music, Polish cuisine.
I love using the hunting knives I collect in preparing the food I make and enjoy.

    Hi, Lars!

The software that iKC uses allows us to customize our own page pretty much anyway we want it to look. I use to spend more time customizing and tweaking every little detail on "My Page," but became discouraged at doing so because of things that were beyond my control that would disrupt what I had done. That's a story for another day, though.

Go to your page (MY Page) and look on the left hand column under your name and where you're from and you will see a prompt that says, "Customize My Page." Click on that and you will enter the "Design Studio." That's where the magic happens! Once in there you will find different themes as well as options that permit you to fix your page just about any way that suits you.

It's been a while since I've changed anything and my brain doesn't really work the way it used to. So I can't explain much more than I already have as far as the media player goes. What I will do is encourage you to jump in there and play around. Don't worry, you can't break anything, and regardless of what you do you can always just cancel it and everything goes back to the way it was before.

So, have it it my friend. I hope you get the result you're looking for.

    Cheers!

  • Ron Cooper

No problem! I'm glad I was able to help. The cool thing about the Themes is that if you do spend some time designing a custom theme, and then decide you wish to change it at some time in the future, it will always be saved. So if you do change it and wish to go back and use it again at a later date it will still be there.

I hope that made sense? But aside from the Themes you can tweak the colors and just about everything else, too! Just get in there and pay around. That's what I use to do. In other words...have fun!

    Cheers!

  • Ron Cooper

    Hey, now!

I see that you've done some decorating over here! Looking good!

    Thanks for friending me, yo!

Have a great weekend, my friend!

  • Shlomo ben Maved

Below your profile is a button called "customize my page" and everything was done there.

Hi Lars, the Camillus Marlin Spike on my page was made under contract for British and Canadian Forces.  It is actually patterned after the 6353-1905 three piece clasp knife adopted by the British Ministry of Defense in 1905. The knives were primarily made in Great Britain and Commonwealth Nations.  With the onset of World War I, demand for the knife outstripped production capabilities in Britain and her Commonwealth allies. Camillus stepped in and began producing knives for the Britain and Canada. The knives were issued to all forces, land, sea, and air. It is believed tha tthese clasp knives were the first government contract offered to Camillus.

Lars. My Ontario M# has a 1095 Carbon Steel Parkerized blade.  The original M3s were also 1095 Carbon steel.  Most were either blued or Parkerized.

    Check out:  http://olive-drab.com/od_other_edged_m3.php

Or if you can get hold of the book:  Knives of the United States military: World War II, by Mike Silvey, he has a great section on the M-3.   Wikipedia also gives good info.

As far as I know, the only company currenlty making it in 1095 Carbon steel is Ontario.  It is also USA made.  Bokers in made in China using SK-5.  Soemother company is making it in 440 Stainless.

The Sheath that Ontario sheath is not period correct.  You would need to pick up an M-8 or M8a1 scabbard.  Or if you can find a copy of the M6 leather scabbard that would be best.   Leather repros are out there but they are less than perfect.  You really need to find a place where you can inspect the sheath before buying it.  Some are flat out awful!

You can get an Ontario for around $58 on Amazon.   Prices are similar to that on eBay.  Most decent Army Navy Stores will also carry it.

     Hi Ya Lars!

Once I learn how to navigate and where to ask questions.

I will try to put some pictures on.

  • Jan Carter

just to keep Poles busy guessing all the time? :-)

YES!!! That is the reason, either that or to frustrate and old southern gal LOL. Everything on the site is set to newest first. I cannot explain it, I cant seem to fix it and our provider says "but your set to newest first ". Yep, they are very helpful
  • Tobias Gibson

Thanks for the  story Lars.  I'm glad we've made contact and you found the info useful.  I need to do some updating on all my pages, especially the Sailing Knives and my Rough Rider Reviews.  I'v ealso wrote an extensive amount of info on the Camp/Utility pattern knives that i need to get up but I've just not had the time!

  • Michael Squier

Ha ha, I rhought I already had. Checked out your etsy shop, very nice stuff. My wife runs our shop and once in a while talks me into creating wood products.

  • J.J. Smith III

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll have to check them out when I get on the desk top again.

  • tim payne

Enjoyed your etsy shop Lars.  Great pieces!

  • Michael Teele

Thanks for the welcome Lars, being as we are both in Texas, it may as well be half way around the world! :D

    Hi Lars:
Thanks for your note. Not my Pierce-Arrow, but I am a sucker for just about anything with wheels and an engine.

  • Joseph R. Aloia

Hey Lars thanks for your comments. From your page it seems I could learn a lot from you. Just curious what is your edc ? Right now I’m in North Carolina, noticed several guys carry fixed blade knives.  What’s your views . Thanks

  • Joseph R. Aloia

Thanks, getting a little older and want to focus most of my energy on pocketknives which have always been a fascination.

  • Craig Puryear

Thanks for the warm welcome, I do the blade restoration mainly due my interest in the individual history of the piece and to preserve its relevance to the previous and current owners. It also is great therapy for my ptsd .
I have a Facebook page called Craig’s Knife Life if you are on that platform. I have a lot of before and after pictures. To me no knife is to far gone, they all have some value to someone.
  • J.J. Smith III

Don't know what happened to your post on my covid bead pic.  I was adding another comment and they both disappeared.

But I went through a bunch of crap, and I'm not sure I wanted to go shopping for a crap knife. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Roman Inozemtsev

    Hi and thank you!

  • Co de Bruijn

    Hallo Lars,

Lars, Siema!  Dziekuje!  (That's the limit of my Polish -- despite having a serious girlfriend about 20+ years ago who emigrated from Warsaw.)  I hope you're doing well also, and have to say I'm really glad you're here -- you've got great taste in blades!

  • Christopher Marshall

Many thanks for the welcome. Wisdom, not too sure about that.

Thank you,  it's nice to be here.

  • Hank

Thanks!  I live outside Houston, so we are sorta neighbors.  I have become very interested in the history of the knives I have come across. I really appreciate that people that are much more knowledge about knives are willing to share on these forums.

    Good evening Lars,

I tried to find a way to send this to you in a private message, but I could not find how.  (

I would be happy to throw a reply up on that thread that you shared a link to in your reply on my photo.

I will have to get a little nicer photo than the on I have though.  Your photos are really nice!

Thank you for sharing the new group with me.

Oh I did send you a friend request if you are so inclined to accept it.

    Thanks again,

    Kevin

    Lars,

Thanks for reaching out, yes we are very near each other, I actually work in Richardson! Al Mar was a good friend and so was the gentleman he sold hos company to as well.  Had some unique knives by Al, including one he personally scrimshawed with a rat! Love older Randalls, sadly sold about a dozen of t hem a few years back...like old Gerbers too. I go way back with Lynn Thompson from CS knives, probably 35 years or more.  We should try and get together in the next few weeks.  Cheers, KML

  • Kenneth Levin

Got a few stories and it would be good to get together soon. This week and next are shot, family in town and then off to CA for a wedding.  Maybe the week of the 23rd.  I'll pack up a few intriguing items!

Thanks Lars, I see you're a collector of bayonets. I know nothing about bayonets, but have one that has been passed down to me. It's supposedly a Japanese bayonet from WWII (but you know how family war stories can be). I'll send you a pic sometime and maybe you can tell me a little about it.

  • Ben North

Ha ha. Thanks Lars. Much appreciated. Glad you enjoy NBK.

I can't believe I just now found IKC. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks here, and I will definitely be spending some time here sipping whiskey and learning stuff.

  • Ben North

iKC exclusive reviews would be cool. We hope to be writing more stuff likr "How To Lose Your Knife In A  Bar" in the next few months. It is easy to get caught up in knife reviews and forget about ridiculous commentary on knife culture.

We will definitely be linking to threads here at iKC now that we have found it. There is a lot of great info tucked away here.

  • Kregg Galbreath

    Hi Lars,

    Owe you one!

  • Kenneth Levin

Lars, apologies for the poor communication, had a lot going on lately.

Let's try and get together for a coffee soon.  Cheers,

    Ken

Thank you, those cutlass' are for one of my customers on the USS Bataan.  The chiefs mess gives these out for transfer gifts.   Where are you located at? I'm in Chesapeake VA.   If you sent me some knives to work on what would you want put on them?

  • Charles Early

Thanks, Lars Ray. I will have lots of questions..

I noticed you reside in my old hometown.

  • Charles Early

We moved there in 1999 from TN for work. I retired, and we moved back to TN to be close to family. My wife and loved McKinney too, although I think it was getting a little too big for me.

  • Marc-Olivier Sylvain

Hello Lars! thanks for your input i am new in the knife collection i am very interested to exchange with you guys !

    Cheers.

  • Rocky Howard

Thanks for the welcome Lars. I have collected, traded, bought and sold knives for as long as I can remember. But I never was a student of the history of all the makes and brands. I will certainly be tapping into the knowledge of the forum members. I have divested 99% of my "last" collection to my two son-in-laws and my three grandsons. But collecting is a hard habit to break.
