Alan, if this is what you were referring to, the BMG stands for Browning Machine Gun.

Our fighter planes during WWII used 50 caliber machine guns.  They would literally tear an enemy plane apart.  The ammo belts on our fighters were 27 feet long.  So if you fired all your ammo at the enemy, you gave him the whole nine yards.  That's where that expression comes from.
