C. 1940/41: Type 30 Japanese bayonet for Type 38/99 Arisaka Rifle; National Denki under Kokura Arsenal supervision.

Classified as a sword-bayonet, this is an early WWII example with a fullered blade; straight quillon, contoured grips fastened with rivets, and a flat-faced birds-head pommel.

The leather frog is a museum-quality replica, whereas the original was rubberized leather or canvas.

As best I can tell, all the blades are blued...along with a whole lot of wear. They are certainly not bright. I have not yet been able to identify the tana on these last three, but I believe you are spot on for the series on these.

I will work on getting the pommel shots you requested. After all - if we're going to have some series discussions here, I better deliver the goods!

Oh yes!

Here is something that I can completely get into.  I love seeing these type 30 bayonets!

If I end up spouting off stuff that is too redundant, please let me know, and I can keep this to myself.

This was made by Matsushita Metal Products.  A sub-contractor for the Kokura arsenal.

A fullered blade, straight quillion, contoured handles, flat bird's head pommel and rivets.  I cannot tell from the photo if this is a blued or bright blade.  I am going to make the assumption that this is a blued blade.  [The only bright blade I know of that is close to this combination of features was a little bit disputed as to it originality].

The combination of these features would limit this to being an 84th through 87th series.

A photo of the pommel would let us know for certain which series it is.

The scabbard looks to be in decent shape.  The frog is obviously a repro, buy hey;  its a frog.  None of my T30 bayonets have a frog at all.

Can we see another photo that is of the end of the pommel?

Thank you for sharing!
