A decent overview of the development of weapons beginning in the BC era through the middle ages.  The author shows how various aspects of weapons and tactics are recorded withing old sagas, poems and other old lore and then supports these assertions with findings from archeology.  While the author gets into much more detail with the weaponry, he also describes other accoutrements of war: chariots, shields, helmets, chain mail, plate armor, and gauntlets.
