I taught Royal Rangers for a while too. I showed them several ways to start fires, including flint and steel and a ferro rod. The boys loved it. I still love playing with fire.

I have a metal ring similar to that, I had the flint also, but one of the grandkids got into it and lost it. We taught the boys in Royal Rangers how to start fires that way. It's been about 20 years since I was involved in that program. I started working out of town and had to give it up.
