Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Thanks go out to Lars Ray and Kevin D for helping me identify this Japanese T30 bayonet that I found at the home of my late father-in-law. I assume he picked it up while serving in the Pacific during WWII. I wanted to clean it up some before hanging it on the wall in my knife room, so took the surface rust off the bayonet and scabbard, re-blued the metal surfaces, and cleaned up the wood scales a little.

That is indeed surprising.  One of the unexpected things that I have encountered in my interest in the military type weapons is the history that is associated with the weapon.  Be it a rifle, bayonet, or combat knife.  For whatever reason (maybe because I am a nut), the history means as much to me as the item.  I never expected the item to carry that sense of history with it and convey something...  intangible...  that drives me to research; talk to previous owners, family members, about the events that the previous owner encountered and dealt with.

Yes.  Unexpected it was.    :P

Thanks guys.  This was a fun project.  What surprises me the most is that neither my wife nor her brother knew that their father had this thing!!  Just wish I had info on how he acquired it.  He enlisted in the navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific during the war, but that is all I know.
