Thanks Lars. It's always nice to find something unexpected that puts a smile on your face!
That's a sweet find Dennis - and obviously a former favorite. The soft conservation you are doing is looking great!
Another find from the home of my late father-in-law. Found this Hammer Brand half congress. Based on the tang stamp, believe it to be a 1936-37 model (if someone can correct me on this, please do). It looked nothing like this when I discovered it. It was SO rusty and covered in crud that I had to use some needle nose pliers to open the blades ... and even with the pliers, it was not easy! Also, the tip of the main blade was broken off. Cleaned off as much of the rust as I could and repaired the tip. Opens easily now, no blade wobble, and has a nice snap. It is a shell construction, but did not want to attempt to remove the shells for fear of not being able to get them back on as tightly as they are now. Lots of chips in the blades. That will be the next task ... remove the chips and sharpen her up! I don’t think I will do any additional cleaning of the blades. The worn, well used, appearance is nice!
