I think the biggest difference John is the repro seemed to have been numbered and this is not.  Also this is not the grey bone.  I think you are right at the 50-60 and I appreciate the info John.  I could not find anything other than the repro's and no dates.

Jan, an interesting old knife, indeed- I believe this is a  German Boker made for the European market circa 1950-60's.It  is very scarce, as I can't find another original with that shield. However, The Alpine Series was resurrected as part of Boker's Classic line, which is fairly recent, although I can't find exact dates on them either. The most notable difference between the original and the reproduction version is the orientation of the shield. Your shield faces the front bolster, while the repro is at a right angle to the bolster.I have a book listing Boker commemoratives from 1960-1990, and it does not mention the Alpine Series, so I would assume the repro's date after that. Here is a pic of a repro version for comparison.

The reason I wanted to find out about it is that she has taken the time to find out how to care for it, for her son who is only 6 now.  When we get back from Dalton she will bring it by and Donnie will clean it up.  I cannot find any info on the Alpine series though.  I can only find that it existed LOL

A young friend came to see us today and brought her grandfathers "apple knife".  It is a Boker

As you can tell it is well loved by him and Donnie will be cleaning it up for her but I thought I would like to she some light on the knife for her other than the pattern.  I am thinking by the Tang it is likely around the 60's, she remembers seeing it most of her childhood so that timing fits.  I am thinking SFO based on the shield and etch
