Carbon steel, incredibly sharp. The edge is incredibly thin & has had a lot of reports of rolling. Better for softer materials, though the edge could also be reworked to make it sturdier (such as by convexing it on a Work Sharp or some other belt sander -- just be careful not to round that tip!).
