It's a fold in the blade, Dale. I've seen pics of an older version, by another company, that was bamboo, which was probably a more traditional scale.
Don't plan on carving with it, Michael, it's for my Oriental "Junk Box" collection.
It's a current production knife, Ellis.

Very interesting, J.J. I love the Jap knives for the most part.. When was that made ?? Any Idea?/

I went to their site and was surprised to find the bamboo scaled unit priced the same as the jigged bone.

Hummm .. given the choice .. I'd also go with the jigged bone.

I do like the oval cigar shape & the simplicity of the friction folder.

!! Nice knife !!

Cool, a really neat looking knife, does it carve well?

Cool

What's the blade stop like, JJ. Gotta a pic, by chance ?

Is it a folded over "tab" of the blade stock ?

Is it a tab welded at 90 deg to the blade stock ?

Regardless .. nice 2-blade friction folder .. the jigged bone scales are sweet !!!

Flyer claims that the blade steel is 1065 carbon, while the box indicates stainless.  Either way, they came sharp and easily sharpened up to a nice edge.
