The F-S knife was designed around 1941 but really gained its notoriety in 1944 at Normandy.

Being as this is a pretty popular blade, there are a ton of replicas and copies around.  I may have to re-evaluate my suspicion of authenticy though... For whatever reason, I thought the original, 'real' ones were silver metallic colored.  The first pattern also had a good sized ricasso.  The 2nd pattern (P2) used some brass handles.  The P3s had more variants but the handle design was different.

No real finish on them.  I do not know a great deal about them though, so I might be mistaken.

The finish on the blade and handle seem too good in my opinion to be form the early 40s.  Sorry if I led you on.  I was checking out the scabbard and thought it had a fair bit of wear on it.  The tip is metal, right?

Yep.  That is a Fairbairne-Sykes fighting knife.  I do not have one yet, but if that is original, then that is a real treasure/find to the right person.

We are not shown any potential markings, but if the condition of the scabbard is any indication, I would expect that It might be authentic.

Hi Rob - you really don't know?

It is a Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife....here is a Wiki Link to shed more light on for you:

Without being able to see any markings on it, it's hard to tel if your is authentic issue (meaning stamped by any number of Ministry of Defense / Dept of Defense agencies) or Reproduction. And by Reproduction I do not mean some cheap copy...I mean an authentic interpretation by a reputable maker, like the FX-592 or FX-593 by Fox knives. 

Many folks will state that if it's not MOD issues, it's not a real FS dageer type I, II, or III. That will be up to you to decide. From what i see here - you have a beauty!
