Steve, that is a Kudu mande by Cold Steel. It's a Navaja style knife. Someone in iKC had one some time back. They didn't know what it was. I did a little research on them. They were popular in I believe Spain and France. The ones I've seen are at least a hundred years older, late 19th century. They have a pull ring to release the locking mechanism. This one has a Kudu (African atntelope type animal) etch on the blade with a Kudu horn on the handle. I liked the ones I did the reasearch on and when SMKW had this one in September's catalog for $7.99 I figured it would be another interesting piece to add to my collection to make people say, "Gosh what is that Chuck". Gotcha!! The one thing I can tell you is this baby is sharp right out of the box. Two bandaids worth of sharp!! If I were to ever buy a knife again that I didn't know how to operate the lock, I'd wear gloves until I figure it out!!!!!!
