The blade steel is a laminate .. VG10 core. This steel takes and holds a keen edge. The sheepsfoot blade design offers a strong utilitarian cutting edge. The frame is hardened 0.069" thick SS. There are oilite (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oilite) washers between the blade & frame. It's a quality build.

I think that knot adds to the picture.  To me it almost gives the illusion that the knot is supporting the knife.  You couldn't have position it better, positioned in the center of that curved portion of the handle.
