My wife took the boys shopping at REI for Father’s Day, & one of my gifts from that REI trip was this little Schrade hatchet. I can’t recall which Chinese Steel it’s made of (5Cr13, I think). I can’t even recall it’s name. But the little sucker performs much better than I could have guessed. They really sucked the cheeks in on this one, & that’s got to be what makes it chop so well... The handle is too narrow to be able to use it for long before cramping sets in, but it’s got the cutting chops— so to speak. I’m impressed (& relieves) that this hatchet turned out to be a great gift — as part of a sort of Nessmuk trio, no less!
