The answer to the second part is that locking blades are illegal to carry if you don't have a valid reason ?!!!

I carry this at work and do a little whittling at lunch break etc , doubt that is a valid reason anymore than not wanting to cut a finger off is . Then again I am old Dale and most of the people who cause trouble with knives aren't , so if I don't get stopped then I guess I am okay ....wouldn't carry it around town though .

As for the more important point , I like D2 a lot and do think that diamond has a role to play . I am getting fond of pasted strops now for the finishing . Lots of people on the forums , when I used to go there ..other forums that is ...would say that they couldn't get D2 sharp , I guess that says a lot about their sharpening abilities !! D2 ,  S30V things like that are good enough for me and stay sharp enough to make the slight effort of getting them there worthwhile .

The other knife on the pic is an Enzo PK30 a terrific little slipjoint in S30V , and legal , the only reason that I prefer the Birk is the one handed opening just makes life easier. The thick scandy grind also gives a nice thick spine to push against with the left thumb when whittling .

I too appreciate the threaded fasteners approach.

.

I was recently able to dis-assemble a left handed auto I'd made for my brother & regrind the blade .. from a spear-point to a drop-point design .. much more useful for him on the farm & in the woods.

.

How do like the D2, John ?

.

440C was my favorite for many years ..then.. I got my first PHD2 by Queen. D2 is now my favorite for affordable high grade blade steel. I've found diamond whetstones almost a must for sharpening ..but.. it sure holds an edge once you get it there.

I dearly love my traditional pocket knives but these screwed together knives do have an advantage when they need cleaning . Boy did this need cleaning , used for everyday tasks pretty much ...everyday since buying it .

This pic was when it was new but there is little sign of wear and tear , now it's clean again .
