I hate brown lettuce what can I say and if you cut it in half with a regular steel blade it goes brown ,bad look!

Not techincally Bakelite...it's kind of like the Kleenex tissue paper thing. American Catalin aquired the patents from Bakelite and changed the process. This is a cast Pheonolic two part material which increased the hardness and durability. The serrations were ground to an almost razor sharp edge.

Rediculously sharp for an early thermoplastic.

Probably didn't sell well.

Maybe Max should have been on the publicity campaign:

"Bet its good for cutting up lettuce won't brown it. Purdy Cool!"
