The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Those of you that know me...or have thoroughly explored my photo page, know that I've been a big fan of SOG's Tomcat 3.0 design. I have had a photo of my kraton-handled version posted for quite some time. In fact, that very knife has been...and remains...one of my favorite knives of all time. I like the platform so much that when I saw this limited edition Carbon Fiber VG-10 San Mai Tomcat on Knife Works, I bought one. Before I go on about this latest acquisition, I've got to give Roger at Knife Works props for being the best knife dealer in the country. I've never had a better experience than I do when I buy from him. And...he has this awesome ability to get his manufacturers to do these UNBELIEVABLE limited edition runs! On to the knife...
Mind blowing. Totally incredible. An absolute joy to hold and use. Beautiful. Magnificent. What's so awesome about this knife? Well, for starters...it's shape. Look at how it flows...the shape is very NATURAL. Consequently, it really is incredibly comfortable in the hand. The handle scales are Carbon Fiber...and the kind that GRIPS your hand back. Look at the polished aluminum bolsters...with the Arc Lock system (works like Benchmade's Axis Lock). Though you can't see this in the photo, the top and bottom edges of the bolsters have incredibly cool notched machining that assists with grip (and looks awesome). The extremely polished blade is nothing short of superb. The shape is ideal for cutting, slicing, stabbing. And...it's made from VG10 San Mai (you can see the laminated steel line in the photo). Look at the jimping at the top of the blade's spine. It really works...and you get enough of it that you can totally choke up on the knife for really small detailed cutting. You know what else? A big part of what makes this knife so comfortable is the fact that it doesn't have a pocket clip!!!!!!!! While I love the convenience you get with pocket clips, I hate how they feel in the hand. So how do you carry the Tomcat? See the far left side of the photo? Yep...it comes with a ballistic nylon sheath (well made).
All in all, this baby isn't cheap...but it is a great example of hallmark manufacturing. By the way...these are limited edition...and come with their own serial number...noted on the certificate from SOG's el presidente!
