The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
SOG is a fascinating knife company whose tactical designs work very well in everyday life. Shown here is one of their more recently designed platforms; the Visionary. In the foreground is the smaller Visionary I knife...absolutely perfect for EDC...and in the background is the MUCH larger Visionary II...which is not only good for EDC, it will function well in a situation requiring something a bit bigger. Both knives feature well-honed VG-1o steel...which I've had excellent experience with...an arc-lock mechanism and a nicely checkered zytel handle with full stainless steel liners. The knives also feature SOG's super low-riding bayonet style pocket clip. Oddly, the larger knife (Visionary II) has the clip placed over the lanyard hole. I don't typically lanyard my folding knives so this doesn't matter to me...but somebody is sure to get irritated with it. The blade shape is an interestingly modified version of a drop point with just a hint of recurve. Personally, I really like the cutting power of the recurve shape, though sharpening it can be a bit of a challenge. One of the things that I like most about the Visionary design is that it isn't real thick; the knives are relatively sleek and comfortable to carry all day long. All in all, these knives are very well made (from Japan) and are priced well under $100 each.
