This is my U.S. Model 1873 Springfield 45-70 Trapdoor socket bayonet outfitted with the Pattern 1885 scabbard and frog.

Often touted as Civil War era (wrong!) or Indian Wars (eh, poosible), it's more likely my piece served the during the Spanish- American War, as more than 100,000 of these frogs were produced at Rock Island Arsenal during the fiscal year 1897–98.

The bayonet with its beautiful high-polish blue finish illustrates the painstaking workmanship exhibited on these rifles and bayonets. The socket length is 3.00 in. (76 mm.), and a blade length of 18.0 in.
