Kees,

Gorgeous knife (nice picture, too!)...was it crafted from one piece of steel? And what is the wood, ebony? I'm probably wrong again, as I guess that the beautiful wood on Data's knife was olive...wrong! So what is that handle made of?

Moras and Martinis ate both great knives, and affordable. they do make some exspesive ones too. If you go to a gun show you can ussually find a dealer with an assortment of either or both nrands. . Martinin has been around for a long time.

Thanks for that info dead guy.  I did not know that Rapala had its root with Marttiini.  I have my dads Rapala but it's still in my fishing box.  No telling how old it is, but I still use it.

Unfortunately the only exposure most of us in the US have to Marttiini knives is the fillet knives they make for Rapala & sell at Target, Wal-Mart, Dick's & Cabela's.  On a lark I decided to request a catalog, so I went to their website, which told me they had a lot more to offer, & then they sent me this really nice full color catalog with a bunch of different models.  They have more knife models than many other Scandinavian makers, & a much larger variety than Mora.

One of my best knife-related memories involved looking through that catalog, with my younger son, maybe 4 months old at the time, being fascinated by the images.

Oh, & that Raven (below) is also full tang (though probably not quite as rugged as the new Mora Garberg)!  :)

I had never even heard of Marttiini knives before I saw this, but I like my Mora knives and this obviously has the same style as Morakniv.  I'm still excited about the full tang Mora that they announced at SHOT show - that hasn't come out yet - but now I think I need to find out more about these Marttiini knives.  It is just darned good looking in person.   :-)

Jan - I like your idea of oiling it.  I may do that.  The steel just says "INOX" which, of course, is French for Stainless Steel.  The word INOX doesn't really give me much information.  But you know, for a $30 knife I still think I scored pretty well.
