Colonial Knife Company, My Family Business..the book.

Please let me introduce myself. My name is Robert Anthony Paolantonio, third generation owner, stockholder and cutler of Colonial Knife Company, Inc...

My grandfather Frederick (Fortunato in Italian), incorporated Colonial in 1926 after many years of learning the American language and paving the way for his brothers yet to arrive here. Grandpa Fred came here in 1903.

Since they were all cutler's from the old country, Frozolone Italy, they all work hard in the cutlery industry and eventually combined their knowledge and skills to incorporate what we know as "COLONIAL KNIFE COMPANY, INC".  (in no way affiliated with that on line Colonial Corp. that sells imported stuff).....

I have taken the time and information of my 40+ years working in the original factory that the brothers built years ago and have written a book. A book about the very begining challenges of all three brothers, the founding father's of the company, and take you for a tour of pocket knife production unlike any other process imaginable..

My story begins with raw material such as colled rolled and strip steel, stainless steel, brass, Aluminum, and nickel silver, that was blanked with progressive hub and die tools. Most of these tools were the size of a toaster and were very heavy and expensive to make.

The 200,000 square foot factory was a florishing business and at one time Colonial Knife could brag about the fact that they were the second largest manufactuer's of pocket knives in the world!!   Back in the days, that was a fact...

I was bitten by the cutler bug very early and I found myself alone in the knife making or cutler art, since out of 12 men, second and third generations, I am the only known Paolantonio to produce one single pocket knife, let alone the thousands of knive's I've personally made!!!

I loved working with knives and all of the production so much that I had my own little bench in the assembly room for many years and started from the bottom up, taking apart old knives and repairing them. Then, using my company's parts I started making and finishing pocket knives. Learning all the machinery involved in knife production was educational for sure; it took me years. Watching and learning, learning and watching....

There is much more to tell but that's why I wrote my book...."My Family Business".. $ 25.00, including shipping...
