Recently I bought six pocket knives that came with just one pouch.

Why??

Well, for one I wanted the pouch. It looked pretty cool. Old leather that seemed to still be in good shape. Plus I wanted one of the knives. An I-SL George Wostenholm that seemed to be a vintage Barlow that has the Wostenholm tang etching of Oil The Joints.

So I bid on the group, very few bidders and I got the knife I wanted (and the pouch) for sixty bucks...plus five more knives. I figured I could sell the other five knives and make a lot, maybe even most, of my money back!

Within the group I found a number of oddball knives with markings like Bell, Hoppe and Wayne Stainless. I am not familiar with these knives, they are all small pen knives. And then I found this knife. It looks old and parts of it seem to be handmade...maybe it is?? It has 2 blades and a cork-puller. It has a center line of s3teel (?) with steel bolsters. One bolster has a little notch in it where the cork-puller edged into, while it swings out of that main center strip of metal.

Here is a shot of the pouch by itself. It's a nice old leather pouch with no markings. I'm not sure it came with the Wostenhold. Maybe or maybe not. If the Wostenhold is from the 40s, which it seems, the pouch is probably older leather than that.

Comment by Lee Saunders on July 25, 2012 at 22:16: I've been thinking more about this and as I looked closer at this leather JJs suggestion makes more and more sense and would explain that little flap over that exists. It would be where the finger meets the palm or back area of the glove and the area of the leather is bigger.

It makes perfect sense and I think the mystery is solved guys. Thanks for all of your help JJ & D ale

I retained the leather from the area of the "palm" & folded it over as a flap to close the purse. Worked great .... 'n ended up looking remarkably like your pic ... stitchwk & all !!!!

Love the IXL .. OIL THE JOINTS. I've a few Wostenholm .. but not w/ that stamping.

Comment by Lee Saunders on July 18, 2012 at 21:14: That could be JJ. It looks to the period of the knife which is why I say 20s or so, but yet it could have been repurposed, so a glove would make sense.

I have quite a few I-XLs. Maybe 10 or 12 different styles of pocket knives. If I see another one I like I'll probably buy that too!
