Yes, I like the monkey fist. They are useful and fun. One of my friends bought a boat last year. I recently presented him with a monkey fist for throwing line to dock. A lot of people don't realise that is what they are originally for.
I have been making a lot of them lately. Some people put nothing inside them. I always put something inside. For light duty, a wooden or plastic ball. For more heft, a ball bearing. Sometimes I make bigger ones with rope instead of para cord and a golf ball or a tennis ball core. Once I made one for a guy that wanted a large heavy one. So I put a slit in a tennis ball and filled it with BB's. That was a really HEAVY-DUTY monkey fist!
