Steve, I bought this one via Amazon.

When I emailed ABK&T a while back they gave me a name of preferred provider. As the knife I wanted was on Amazon, I didn't bother checking into it.

Not all of their knives use the same steel.  Some use a 440 Equivalent.  I have looked at that USMC  89001 Leather Neck Fixed Blade on many occasions.  It looks sweet and uses 8Cr13MoV.  That is similar in properties to AUS8.    Knife Country USA sells it for around $40 on Amazon.   I believe their "Roper" line is supposed to be a better quality but haven't looked at it as their was no scout knife in that line.

Hi Steve,  They are owned by American Buffalo Knife & Tool.   To be fair about the steel, the old Kamp Kings and Colonial Forest Masters are also used 420!  Of course, We'll see how it holds up.
