Sounds like the RR knives are really nice. Thanks for all the comments. I think I'll seriously start looking at them.

Bone cracks may develop over time or may happen when the knife pins or the bone expands and contracts due to changes in temperature and humidity.   This is the stuff that may happen afters years of use with any knife.  The case Knife I showed was part of a collection of knives that were improperly stored in a box (well over 100 knives in one small box) for several years.  I have no clue how the handle broke.  For all I know, it could have been thrown against a wall.

I've dropped several of my RR knives on the concrete floor of my basement and the scales were just fine.  You need to remember the other thing SMKW says.  If something is wrong with the knife they will replace it free of charge.

I've bought over 150 RR and have problems with two of them.  SMKW sent me replacements no questions asked and as the knives were under $10 they told me to keep the defective knife as it wasn't worth the postage to send it back.  The problems One had a slightly bent tip, the other had a back lock that was "sticky"

Michael, here is a link to a tough test I put a Rough Rider through.  And I still use that knife.  I carry it when I am out in my hunting area scouting or just riding my 4 wheeler.  The last job I used it for was to cut some brush that had grown into the viewing area of my game camera.

I know a dealer that sells Rough Riders. He says they sell good because of the price and has a lot of repeat buyers so they must do ok.

I have several RR's with bone handles.  So far no cracks.  I also have several Case with bone handles.  No cracks there either.

I haven't received a Rough rider with a cracked bone handle but I have seen cracked bone handles.  You'll usually see little cracks near the pins.  The thing is almost any handle material will crack.  To me bone looks great and less prone to getting scratched up in the pocket than wood or delrin.   However, even bone can crack or break.  Take for instance this Case Mini Trapper.

I've always been leary of buying a RR. They look so nice in all the pictures I've seen at iKC. What stops me is the warning in SMKW's catalogs about bone is prone to crack, etc.

Has anyone ever received a cracked knife?

What I have noticed with eCop is there buy it now prices on many brands (including Case, Tops, Esee, Kabar, Queen, etc) is similar to if not lower than  SMKW and shipping is free and incredibly fast.   So far, I have had three transactions with them.  2 via eBay on one on Amazon.

Yes, Tobias.  It is eCop.  I was very happy with them the one time I used them.  They have a lot of RR's that SMKW doesn't.
