I recentaly found a buck 422 bucklite in a pawnshop for $5.00. Not Bad. The blade was worn down some so I sent it to the factory to have the blade replaced. Little did I know that the 422 bucklite is a discontinued model but also collectable. Now heres where I Screwed up. They replaced the blade with one from a buck 112. So now my 422 model reads 112 on the blade. Hay they did a great job and it looks good. Without the original blade I'm guessing I messed up it's collectabilaty.

Hi Steve & Wanita, A 422 in excellent condition might have fetched around $30-40. More if you had the box and original paperwork. Seeing as yours was used I would guess it's value at around $20-30. Since you scored it for $5.00 I'd consider you made a great purchase for a user knife... nice size, and lighter than the 112. my two cents... Mike

Ya I guess I did. Actually I picked 3 buck knifes out of a bucket at this pawnshop. A 110,112,and the 422. total cost. $13.00. All had to be sent back. BUCK did a wonderful job on all of them. I was wondering about the collector value of the 422.Not necessarily the $ value. Thanks for the post.
Hi, so what kind of damage will they cover I'm guessing if you used your knife for a pry bar your out of luck. But I have a couple of Bucks that could use a little help. And whats the address I can send to. As for the 422 maybe you could find another one in better shape for your collection and use the one Buck fixed. Thank You. THOR.
Three Bucks for $13.00, you did good! The 422 and 426 (110 size) are certainly collectable, they came in several colors, the older ones had the two metal rivets at the rear bolster area, later ones didn't. Many were customized by Buck with the names/logos of Universities, Boy Scouts, PRCA. My favorite of the Bucklites is the Selector with interchangeable blades.

Here's a ScoutLite 422 I recently sold:

Thor,
Here's a link to Buck's website page with info on their "Forever Warranty". They'll replace a broken blade, even if abused, for a reasonable fee. You'll get a 420HC (current steel) blade though.

If you don't want a replacement knife, or a blade change, for sentimental or collectible reasons I would contact Joe Houser at Buck Inc. before shipping your knife. Tell him you just want a clean up and sharpen, or whatever, and he'll probably suggest you send the knife to his attention. Mike
Thor. MJ is correct. BUCK will fix Most knifes. I wish I could post pics. The 110 I sent in was trash and I mean "TRASH". what I got back was unbeleavable. the only way I kmew it was my knife is that they couldnt polish out all the hammer marks out of the bottom bolsters. At $10.00 a knife for S&H its a good deal.
WAY TO KOOL!! I want one.
Hey Buck lovers we were just looking at these knives ( my wife and I ) and realized that 4 of the Buck knives I told you about before have the inverted tang stamp. They are the 119 with inverted two line Buck USA , the 103 with just the inverted Buck, the 105 with the inverted three line Buck 105 USA, and the 102 with the inverted two line Buck USA. Any ideas on when these knives were made? I would like to put this info with the knives along with the other info I got the other day. Thank You. THOR. Oh I almost forgot about the extra spacer on top of the finger gaurd the 102 runs all the way to the end as does the 103 105 on the 119 it does not run all the way to the end.
Hi Thor,
Sounds like you've got some nice old ones there. Can you post some pictures of the knives, it would really help out in dating them. I'll give it a shot though...

One line stamp: BUCK, 1961-1967
Two line stamp: BUCK, U.S.A. 1967-72
Two line stamp, Inverted (read with the point down) 1972
Three line stamp: BUCK, 119 (or whatever model #) U.S.A., 1972-1986
Three line stamp: BUCK, 119 (or whatever model #), Date Code, U.S.A., 1986 - Present

Not sure if the above will make sense to you... I can try to post photo examples of these but it'll have to be tomorrow or the next day. The spacers, number and color, can also help in dating the knives, as can the sheaths. If any one has additional info or needs to make corrections to mine, please feel free.

Here's a 1967, 122/124. Notice the two line stamp:

Hey thats a really nice knife. My wife just gave me my new Blade mag and in The Knife I Carry section thats me in the picture with the Buck knife. What a surprise I sent that in some time ago and did'nt think they were gonna print it. Maybe I'll win a Buck pocket knife in the drawing. By the way I used that knife today at work. THOR.
That's cool Thor. I just grabbed my issue of Blade to check it out, and there you are. Good luck on the pocketknife drawing.

Were you able to figure out the dates on your old Bucks? Post some pictures and I'll help you out.

The 124 in the photo above is the first production run of the 122/124, with the white teflon spacers. It's probably the nicest of the Buck's in my collection. Mike
Wow that is nice I guess I didn't know about the white spacers. What years were these made and how many? I'm not real good with this computer but I will try to post some pictures. THOR.
