Fixed blades

A dicsussion group about knives of the Great Outdoors needs to have an area to discuss all those fixed blades. This will be a place to show off your fixed blades. Doesn't matter if it for filet fish or just the knife you use around the camp fire. Maybe its your favorite deer skinner! Let's see it!

For years, the knife i took camping was my Camillus Mk2 Fighting knife. But it is now in retirement. Not because I found something better, just because it has too much sentimental meaning to have it confiscated by a park ranger or game warden or lost through stupidity.

My current camp knife is a Rough Rider 844 Burl Wood Hunter. Why? Because it has been getting the job done. I've got Hunters by Bear & Son, Case and Buck that all cost more but this one seems to get the job done better and cost half as much as the others.

The only issue I had with the knife was the strap for the sheath. It got in the way of taking the knife in and out of the sheath . A little altering and all was fine.

Fine looking knives, Ken. That bottom one with the finger groove cushion grip reminds me of the old Gerber Cushion Grip Hunter. Always wanted one, but never managed to get one. The wood handled ones looked more attractive, but I thought the cushion grip would be more useful.

I have been wanting a saw back fish knife as a user but they always seem to be a little to expensive to buy as a fish cleaner. Well, happy days. I just won a bid on ebay for one in great shape made by Ontario Knife works. I hope to catch fish this spring and have need of it. There was no mention of a sheath, so I guess it doesn't have one. I'll try post a picture when I get it. I wonder if anyone uses a knife like this to clean their fish with?

Speaking of fixed blades; I also recently purchased a Frost Mora fixed blade with a laminated steel blade and a rose wood handle, I'd like to show ya'll when I get a chance. I bought it to resale to one of my friends, because the price was so low but after getting it, I decided to keep it. It's very well made and has a great edge.

Here is the two fixed blades I was talking about. A Frost Mora skinner and a Ontario fish knife. They have both found a place here with me.

Those look like some very functional knives. I love the sweep on that skinner. And the fish knife looks like it could do some business on some pretty large catches!

You bet Tobias, these are some special task knives. The Frost Mora is made of laminated steel and it became sharper with me just polishing the blade with paper towels. The Ontario fish knife is one I have wanted for a long time. Green River and Marbles knives made this style knife popular but the vintage ones are expensive. I bought this one very cheap.

I like it too. I looked for one a long time but they were kinda expensive for me to buy as a user. The price on this one was so low, I'm ashamed to say. I can't wait to clean some fish with it.
