Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

The National Knife Museum IS Moving...

The Officers, Directors, Staff, and Members of the NKCA, sincerely thank Smoky Mountain Knife Works / Kevin Pipes for giving our collection of cutlery a home these past seven years. As most of you know, we moved our oriignal Museum (built in 1981) from Chattanooga to Sevierville, TN, in November 2007 and it is now time to relocate to a different facility.

The Board of Directors may have found us an exciting new home, but we will not know all the details until a little later. Once permament arrangements have been made, the new location and the "Grand Opening" date will be announced.

Once again, we thank SMKW for all they have done to help promote the National Knife Museum and the hobby of knife collecting.

Sincerely,

Janice D Carter

The official announcement has not been made but an unofficial one went out on FB so I thought I would fill in a few blanks.  The offers have been made to three museums, two have accepted the items the board voted for them to receive and one has not responded but in fairness they have not had an opportunity as they have been out of town.  We look to hear from them by end of week.  The two confirmed are looking forward to having the items on display and that was a chief concern of the board.  These knives belong in view for all to see that want to visit!

I will give you the name of the third when they have confirmed

Thank you Jan...I look forward to wherever I can point members to for visits. Also with summer coming up it might be good to know if the exhibits will be ready for vacations or visits.

Thanks for the info and keeping everyone up to date.

We will know the Grand Opening for the donated items at the Janney Museum by months end.  They plan to display as immediately as possible.

The other 2 will take a bit more time as they are building displays to fit the donations and will have to move other items.

Interesting thing about Janney is that they were so excited to have the items for display they had a floor plan drawn up for where they would go before we got there!

Wow cant wait to see the new locations ~!

Just to be upfront the museum is not dissolving.  We will remain a chartered museum with some of our items on loan. The best thing we could do for collectors was put these on display and not back in storage

That was the one word that I found disturbing in Lisa's FB status.

i hate change, but then again im old.

Two additional Museums have been added to the recipient list

Warwarsing Museum Historical Knife Museum

Cattaraugus Knife Museum at the American Museum of Cutlery, a museum for the Western Hemisphere.

Any idea when the choice will be announced?

I heard that the museum is dissolving (via BLADE eMagazine) and that the collection is being dispersed among three museums. Jan, I believe it's none of the museums in this post.I also heard that certain important collections from the museum will become part of a traveling display at various other museums. Is this info true?

Could you give us a quick rundown of what happened? I belonged to the museum for years then poof, I stopped receiving renewal notices, the website became a static info page, etc. Was it finances? They paid a dollar a year to SMKW for the mezzanine space. Leadership? Direction - mission statement?
