Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

A couple of ideas ( I occasionally have them) and some questions for IKC

Just out of curiosity, I clicked on the members tab, looking to find members in my state ( Illinois). In the search tab, I typed in Illinois.-- Got 2 results- Did not even hit on myself or my friend Tobias. Tried again, using the state abbreviation, IL, and got 44 members !!- I found a member who lives in the same city as me that I did not even know about !!

1- Would it be possible to integrate a tab into this, something on the order of members close to me??Might make for a great opportunity for members to actually meet face to face, show each other their collections, etc., if they so desired.

2-Second question-- Is there anyway to tell if a member is still active or not ??  The member I discovered has not posted anything in quite a while, but that does not tell me if he is still active or not??

3- When I discovered there were 44 members in my state, I did not recognize some of the cities locales-- They might be nearby or not-- I also do not live that far from Indiana state line-- There might be members there that are actually closer than some of the Illinois members -

4- My thought is, it might be nice to meet some of our fellow members in person, without having to attend a knife show--- Any thoughts or suggestions on this ??

I'd love to know if any members lived in or close to Columbia MO...

Hummm....wonder which states has the most members

John,

When we register to join iKC we use the two digit state code so it make sense to me that more would show under IL.

The best to see if a member is close to you is to use the friends app.  Go to your page and click on apps, under misc you will find the app.  Add the folks in your home state as friends.  This may also help you to know if they are active.  Honestly if they have not posted in 6 months, they are considered inactive.

Several of our members have met outside of shows.  I am looking forward to being closer to some.  I would love to meet with some for coffee.  I had one member tell me, they meet at the local McDonalds and trade knives.  Depends on where you are and the climate towards our hobby

Meet and greets might spur some activity too.

Well absolutely JJ. As I said last night, the purpose of iKC is to interact with members who like the same things you do...knives! Its been that way since day one. Jan is right in sometimes life gets in the way and folks no longer collect knives or in some cases no longer make them. Those folks are inactive and many were friends, but you can't change life circumstances!

I would start by sending friend requests to folks who might live near you that you may want to get together with. If they accept you can email the ones who accept and propose the idea of a get together.

I have seen this concept work in the early days of iKC when a group of like minded Indiana Residents got together and bought their own knife, a Kershaw if I remember right.

Anyway it was a lot of fun and activity was off the charts and near impossible to keep up with. I have often said the Activity stream to the right of me used to actually be in constant movement. It was all you could do to stay afloat. Many of those folks were early adopters and we thank them for their pioneer spirit.

I encourage folks to get together when they can and enjoy each others company at a show or other event, It makes for a great time. Come back to iKC and post pictures, post in a group if you were talking about a certain brand.

Above all the more you participate the more enjoyment you will get out of iKC.

I was having this same thought the other day. I am a member of several forums and a local knife club.

My idea was a cross forum get together, for several reasons. First and foremost, the more the merrier. I love meeting fellow collectors.

The Virginia chapter of Usual Suspects Network, that I'm a member of, has met several times and it has always been a lot of fun.

I looked also and found there are over 120 members in Ca. Not many of them are still participating.

Entirely possible Brad that they were not collectors at all. I am finding as i comb through the database of names, many joined iKC for personal reasons, to sell an inherited collection or to ask a question about a knife. Many younger collectors had high hopes of starting a following on YouTube or FB or somewhere. Many if not all are actually not even collecting anymore.

But we go on with new members and those veteran true collectors. I always look for those who collect knives and are proud to show off their collection as well as talk about there hobby with other collectors.
