Steve, thanks for the red light information.
I have a bunch of lights/flashlights. I started with the MagLite Solitaire - 1AAA flashlight, because it fit in the sleeve pocket of the N-2B cold weather mil. jacket -"flight jacket" with hood. Then, I got a couple 2AA Mini Maglights with which I was better able to check air cargo at night, and they came with a clip-on red lens. A couple Brinkmann 2mil & 3mil candlepower "game spotter" lights, and a couple MagLite 2 & 3 D-cell flashlights - old style, before LED bulbs. Keep the 3D-cell in the truck and the 2D-cell on my desk. I have a couple "headlights" and cap bill lights for hunting camp, as well.
Recently I have been given the new high-power LED pocket lights such as the Streamlight Pro-Tac HL - 600 lumens/2 3v Lithium batt., a Nebo 90 lumen 1AA batt., and an NRA "Square" LED that uses 3AAA in a "round" pack.
The brightest of the pocket lights is the Streamlight Pro-Tac HL because it uses 2 3v CR 123 batteries - about $65. The NRA tactical light about $40. and the little Nebo about $10.
The big ole Brinkmann spotter lights are fantastic, but with the huge, old, rechargeable lead-acid batteries you have to keep em plugged in to the cigarette lighter receptacle to get prolonged use from them, and they won't fit in a pocket. 3mil candlepower throws a lot of light downrange.

Some great lights Howard! I was kind of fascinated by the red light discussion. I guess somewhere in my mind I knew that was the case of red light having some advantages. I have experienced infared and it works well. So all thatbtranslates for me. Hope to get some pictures of the ones I have. It is kind of exciting, smaller and much more effective lights!
Ok ready to get your peripheral Night Vision back? Check this information out from FNG and a breakthrough light that does just that: http://www.fnginnovations.com/
Hey, that fng looks pretty good, Steve.
Wow that's incredible 1100 Lumens in that tiny flashlight! i might have to check that out.
Earlier in this discussion, Charles showed all these tiny flashlights he gets from Harbor Freight when ever he orders anything. When we visted, he brought me one of these flashlights to try. I put a new battery in and check out the brightness. Dont know how many lumens but I carry it in my pocket to look into nest boxes(snakes). Here is a pic with it on:
Good to have a bright flash light when trying to keep from getting bit by a snake. I like it Steve!

Here's some more data. I'm getting in on the brightest one:
They'll take AW 18350 batteries. But they'll take any 18350 battery. Or even CR123 batteries. They're also making an extender so that you can use bigger batteries for longer runtimes. Current runtimes they claim are
2 Joakim Elm
Max brightness/ runtime (SUN - QUASAR - PULSAR) 700 (30 minutes) 1000 (20 minutes) 1100 (18 minutes)
Med brightness / runtime (SUN - QUASAR - PULSAR) 210 (100 minutes) 300 (80 minutes) 330 (75 minutes)
Low brightness / runtime (SUN - QUASAR - PULSAR) 35 (11 hours) 50 (8.5 hours) 55 (8 hours)
Yes Helioslight remembers last mode. It turns on at the last used mode.

What size battery is that Alexander? Also any idea what the run time is on a single battery charge?
Alexander Noot said:I pre-ordered another flashlight through Kickstarter.
The Helioslight. Now it's not programmable like my awesome Hexbright.
But it will have a whopping 1100 Lumens output!
Would you beleive at. super reasonble price and with a sheath!
