Nice find, Michael.

What do you think of it being marked Germany? Seems odd for a knife made for German military service because Germans dont call it Germany that is used for export. Could it have been marked after war use and sold as surplus? Or just made for non military sales?

Michael-- Your knife is authentic to WWI service although some were re-issued in WWII--The Imperial proof mark attests to that--The Germany stamp was cold stamped  later-- I have even seen the Germany stamp marked on the  blade below the Imperial proof mark (the D with the crown above)-- From reading about the Germany stamp with an expert on the subject, he stated it is not an area of concern-- Just means that it went to the United States as "War booty" as country of origin was required for imports to the USA--Just a cautionary tale for anyone who may be wanting the same knife-- Ebay and the web is awash in counterfeits and reproductions of this knife-- There were a ton of these made in India and many sold in the USA on websites-- The honest ones listed them as replicas. However many either did not know they are fakes or practiced to deceive. Many of the counterfeit India made knives are artificially aged and very hard to tell from the real thing. Do some research before you buy one online--- Michael- once again, yours is authentic and probably runs in the $250-300 range.

great find Michael.  keep em honest john.
