Schrade USA Uncle Henry LB8 Knife - Can a Lock-back knife not lock?

Hi all, I posted back in June few questions regarding a Schrade USA Uncle Henry LB8 knife, and again, thank you for everyone being so helpful in asking my "newbie" questions.

So I listed the knife on eBay; it sold in no time at all. Then, I get a message from the buyer that says "I want to return this knife because the blade does not lock there was no mention of this problem in the description thanks". I issued a return and took the knife back, but what could I be missing here that would cause it not to "lock" when it's a lock-back knife? Are there springs or pieces that it could lack?

I have a couple of other knives from my uncle, including one beaten up "old timer" and once the knife is opened, there is nothing that prevents it from closing either. I suppose I am wondering if there's a guard or a pin or some piece that makes a lock-back knife "lock" that these knives don't have.

Britney, the first place to check is the area at the back of the blade, when its closed.  There should be a catch that engages the lock bar.  (See below.)

Britney - Lockback knives typically have a notch in the back end of the blade where the locking bar snap into the notch. It is possible that the notch or the bar are worn or broken. i have not seen many like that, but it is possible. You may want to take a look at this area. I have attached some pics of the end of a knife where the notch should be visible, the locking bar should stick up when opening the blade and the blade fully opened where the locking bar should be flush with the back of the knife. If the knife you have does not seem to work like this, there is something wrong with it. If you are able to take some close up pics like this, we might be able to help you out.

"The photos in the previous post are of an old German pruning type knife I just aquired. It surely is interesting, and quite old."
