Claes,

I have have little exposure to S30V but I have read about a good bit.  Everything I have read tells me that it is more corrosive resistant.  With your wanting to use this knife in a water environment, I would say it is a better choice.  I have had experience with using 420 in a salt water environment and it suffice it to say, I would not spend more than as very few dollars on any of them going on the boat

I don't have a 110 Claes but I do have at least a couple of knives S30V . For my uses the S30 is a far better steel and takes and keeps a great edge , just don't lose it in the water though !!

Claes, I have a couple of S30V knives, but only one that I use.  It's a Santoku chef's knife and is razor sharp.  From what I have read the S30V is tougher than most of the common knife steels, such as 154CM and 440C.  I would say, if you can afford them, go with the S30V.

S30V is a great steel. Much more stain/corrosion resistant than 420. Keeps an edge much longer as well. However...S30V is not as easy to sharpen, especially in the field. If you use the heck out of your knife out in the bush, you will have to consider this. A few swipes on a stone or a pull-through sharpener just ain't gonna do it. Either make sure your blade is sharp before you leave, carry a spare in case you need that sharp edge, or plan for taking some sharpening time on your trip.

That's kind of going from one extreme to the other.  420 is pretty low end garden variety stainless blade steel.  S30V is one of the high end very wear resistant, tough, corrosion resistant PM stainless blade steels.  It is great stuff but as noted, harder to sharpen and does not polish up as well.  It's expensive and very hard to process so the knife price goes up a lot.  If you can afford it I would go for it.  I kind of prefer D2 or 154CM for using knives as it's easier to sharpen.  I've never ordered from the custom shop, don't know how many choices they offer.

Okay! Thanks for all Your input!
Im gonna place an order for the 110 with
Nickelsilverbolsters, fingergrowed oakhandles and s30v blade!
I hope and think its gonna make a really great knife that I will carry with me for many years to come!

Claes,

When you get it, please share a pic or two!  I think you have made some fine choices

Thanks Jan!
I will!
