The blade is not quite as sharp as other Rough Riders I've owned but it is sharper than most other Mushroom Knives I've bought with this style of blade.   I wonder if the blade geometry makes it more difficult to get a razor sharp factory edge.

(If you're looking for a mushroom knife with a sharper blade, I'd suggest the RR1400 mushroom knife. It is a more traditional hawkbill and lacks the the spine jimping but mine was razor sharp!)

I've only seen this style of scythe like blade of blade on mushroom knives.  The jimping on the spine is used to knock dirt off the mushroom.  This deluxe model also has the swivel mounted brush (to protect the bristles) and a  stainless steel graduated rule.  The small rule is actually easier to use than the marks on the handle.  I've found it much easier to use.

The knife knife has a small lanyard hole. I added my own snap hook after purchasing the knife. I guess that is one way Rough Rider Keeps the price down.  Snap hooks go for about 50 cents but then you also have to pay to have them added and that will slow production.

I recommend either knife for the Mushroom Hunter who has or wants everything.

To date, I own around 10 mushroom knives.  Some cost as much as $40.  The Rough Riders have proven to be as good if not better than any of the mushroom knives I have so far purchased!  On a side note, 440 Stainless Steel is actually a step above the normal 420 that most knife makers use in their mushroom knives. At under $10, you really can't go wrong!
