Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Just signed up after a bit of confusion around the location issue. Thanks all for the welcome. Now to figure out the navigation around here and to read up on different things.

Most of the knives I have may or may not have much in the way of monetary value but they are priceless to me.

I have a knife my grandfather used to castrate pigs. I have a knife my other grandfather used to cut up bratwurst in Germany. I'll have some questions about that one later. I have a knife sent to me as a kid with a tag on it about the 150 anniversary of  a knife company in soligen.

Once I learn how to navigate these forums I'm sure I'll be asking all kinds of questions.

Welcome! We are not all about the monetary value of our collections. We know that sentimental value outweighs monetary value every time. We also appreciate the knife won in a penny auction just as much as the expensive knife. You will quickly learn how to navigate around our group discussions, and of course we always want to see pictures. Welcome aboard.

I'm learning so bear with me. Attached are three photos of a knife that my grandfather in Germany handed down to my father and finally form my father to me. I know nothing about it and have tried several times to find out information about it. I only see that one mark of an edelwies on it. I know this probably isn't the correct location but I'm practicing loading pictures.

Check out the cheat sheet, Tony.

Should help. If you have questions, just shoutout, someone will help.

Can't help with the knife, though I'm certain someone will chime in.

Warmest welcome Tony, I'm new here myself...and must tell you that your about to meet some of the nicest people. Make you feel like family right from the get go.
In regards to knife collecting...I somewhat compare it to wines...one doesn't have to be into a $100 bottle to enjoy it...when a $10 bottle is what you like. I certainly don't have thousands of dollars "invested", yet some of my most valued knives...are just like the one you've posted/explained...from family...and priceless IMHO.
Look forward to future posts, pics, and seeing you on the forum. Hope you had a great New Year.

Regards,

Ken

Welcome! Take a look around, there's some tutorials you can look through to help get used to navigating the site. If you're able, post pictures, that will help others help you. Any tang stamps, engraving and/or etchings can help as well.

Monetary value isn't always the most important thing for your collection. From what you've shared already it sounds like you have a very valuable assortment. Knives like you've described can never be replaced due to the personal attachment you have.

The important thing about collecting is to collect what you find interesting and appeals to your taste.

Happy hunting brother,

Andy
